Common Heating System Issues And How To Fix Them

Abbie Wade

If your area experiences severe winter conditions, you want to ensure the house is warm and comfortable once the temperatures dip. A functional heating system will be helpful during these months.

But, like other appliances, the heating system can malfunction when you need it the most. This situation is more likely if you didn't service it before the winter season.

Luckily, HVAC technicians can handle your heating system repair to restore the unit's functionality.

Below are some heating system issues the technician can fix.

Some Areas Are Cold

When you switch on the heating system, it should heat the house uniformly per the settings. However, if some areas feel colder than others, it means the unit is malfunctioning.

Maybe the filter is dirty or clogged, you have problems with the bearings, fan, or belt, or the ductwork is damaged.

You can replace the filter without professional help. However, that may not resolve the problem, and you will need a heating repair technician.

The Fan Is Not Working

Whenever the unit's fan isn't working, you should examine the thermostat to determine if the settings are right. Then, assess the air filter to ensure it is not dirty – a clogged air filter may stop the fan from running.

Also, check if the circuit breakers are on; switch them on if they are off. Avoid turning them on or off repeatedly, as this may increase the risk of an electrical fire.

If these troubleshooting procedures do not work, book an appointment with a seasoned heating services expert.

The Unit Does Not Turn Off

A functional heater will automatically turn on and off to maintain the indoor temperatures per the settings.

If the unit continues to blow hot air throughout your home without stopping, check the settings to ensure it's on 'auto' and not 'on.' When it's on the 'auto' setting, it will turn off once it attains the set temperatures, thus warming the house efficiently.

If the unit keeps running after you adjust the setting, it could mean the thermostat is wired poorly or broken. You may also have a blower issue that you cannot fix.

Consider hiring a heating technician to check and fix it. If they reset the thermostat to the initial settings and the unit doesn't run, you should replace it.

Also, if the blower is the source of the malfunction, the technician will repair it.

Remember to service your heater before the cold season to avoid heater malfunctions. But, if you still encounter these issues, you can always rely on the technicians to fix the heating system.
