Is It Time For Plumbing Services To Replace Your Toilet?

Abbie Wade

The bathroom is perhaps the most functionally intimate place in a house, so when it is in a bad state, house livability goes down quickly. An old stained toilet, even when working, is an embarrassment, and you will cringe every time guests go to the bathroom. Many homeowners will usually replace the toilets when doing bathroom remodels. But a toilet replacement could also serve to make your home more functional. When do you need plumbing services to upgrade your toilet(s)?

1. The Porcelain is Cracked

Cracks in a toilet bowl are not only an eyesore, but they are also a health hazard. The old ceramic is thin and brittle and could chip easily, causing you to step into the broken pieces, potentially cutting and hurting yourself. There may be cases where the cracks have caused infections. If there are cracks in the porcelain, replace the toilet.

2. Frequent Clogging

A clogged toilet will cause a major headache during bathroom use, as any homeowner who has had to call plumbing services knows. A clogged toilet can also take a long time to clear, and it is not uncommon for the toilet to overflow into the bathroom and even flood your home. If you are spending too much time unclogging the toilet, you may need to replace it.

3. Too-Old Design

A too-old design is not a good fit for today's lifestyles. Sometimes these toilets overflow because they were just not designed for the number of people in the house. Ask plumbing services to recommend a design that fits your bathroom décor.

4. Too Many Scratches and Chips

Did you know that scratches on the bowl can make it weak? Cracks and chips will likely occur as time goes by. Also, black streaks in a bowl that look like burn marks make the toilet look unsightly. Scratches on the water-inlet pipes of a single-flush toilet have been known to break off and cause clogs in the pipes down the line. Replace the toilet if it is too unsightly and can't be mended.

5. To Replace with Low-Flow Designs

Low-flow toilets use less water per flush, which is more in line with the water-saving needs of most people today. Low-flow toilets also have longer flushing times and larger trap ways, making them more functional and less prone to clogging. If you are mindful of the environment, consider replacing your standard flow toilets with low-flow designs.

Functional, efficient, and attractive bathrooms are essential to a home's livability. For more information on suitable toilet replacements, contact your local plumbing services.
