How To Spot The Need To Have Your Hot Water Tank Replaced

Abbie Wade

If you enjoy taking warm or hot showers and washing your dishes and clothes in hot water, then you want to make sure that you are being extra careful to watch out for signs that it is time to have your hot water tank replaced. The sooner you are able to notice such signs, the sooner you will be able to call and arrange for plumbing services. If you wait too long, you could find yourself without any hot water in the house. Depending on how busy the plumbing company is, you might have to wait several days before a plumber will be available to install a brand new hot water tank for you. This is why it is imperative that you catch the signs of trouble early enough and have the tank replaced before it gets to that point. Here are some of the signs that you are going to want to keep an eye out for:

There Is Some Water On The Floor

Even the smallest amount of water should be a concern and something that is not ignored. This is something that you want to have addressed by a skilled plumber right away so it can be determined just what it is that is causing water to come out of the tank. If there is a leak around the pressure relief valve, that valve might just have to be replaced. However, if there is a rusty spot along the bottom of the tank or there is a crack somewhere, you will need a brand new tank installed.

Your Water Has A Brown Tint To It

If you notice that your water has a brown tint to it, you might first want to call your water company. Inquire about their current work that they may be doing on the main water lines in the area. If they are not working on anything near you, then the problem is likely to be with your hot water tank. As the water tank ages, rust can develop and when that rust breaks apart and floats around in the water, the water starts to take on a brownish color. It is time to immediately replace the tank. Do not drink the water until the new tank is installed.

Watching out for the previously mentioned signs will help you catch problems with your hot water tank that are an indication of its need for a replacement. Should you notice any of the previously mentioned signs of trouble, or you are experiencing something else that has you concerned about the condition of your hot water tank, you are going to want to give your local plumbing services contractor a call. Explain the situation and that you would like for them to inspect your current tank and possibly install a new one.
